Frequently Asked Questions
What is psychotherapy/therapy?
Psychotherapy is also known as “talk therapy” or counseling. It provides a framework to identify symptoms and understand your responses to problems more accurately. It usually provides support for navigating through difficult life situations, identifies and addresses skills helpful to meeting your goals, and suggests other resources for growth and change.
Does therapy take a long time?
It depends. Each person’s therapy journey is unique to them. People are complex and collect experiences over the course of their lives. You will set personal therapy goals with Dr. Labat’s support and check in to ensure that you are working towards those goals. Ultimately, one of the best indicators of movement towards your goal is whether you are showing up for yourself and taking effective action in ways that reflect your own values.
What is a psychological/psychoeducational evaluation?
A psychoeducational evaluation is generally a comprehensive evaluation of intelligence, academic achievement, learning strengths and weaknesses, personality, and behavior.
A psychological evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that helps to clarify diagnoses, identify, current mood/behavior patterns, and long-standing traits that may directly impact functioning.
From your referral question, Dr. Labat will determine specifically if an evaluation would benefit you and what it entails.
Does Dr. Labat take insurance (private or Medicaid)?
Dr. Labat is considered an out-of-network provider. However, clients can use their FSA/HSA benefits to cover the costs of sessions. Clients can also talk with their insurance providers about specific benefits and reimbursement rates. Clients are welcomed to request and receive a “super bill” that outlines services obtained to submit to insurance providers.
Why doesn’t Dr. Labat take insurance?
Dr. Labat’s philosophy is to focus on providing the most optimal clinical and psychological care without interference from third parties, such as session limits and unnecessary disclosures of private and confidential information.
